IR 4.0 Ready : New Automation Tools, New Certifications!

FTKEE UMPSA excited to announce that the Automation Group team has successfully attended the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for a brand-new set of automation tools and training kits self designed by our very own instructor and materialized through collaboration with our appointed contractor. These systems will soon be fully installed in our faculty’s lab!

The lab upgrade features Omron NX Series PLCs supporting EtherNet/IP, IO Link, Modbus TCP/IP, and Modbus RTU, allowing students to dive deep into real industrial communication protocols. Students will also explore Factory IO for realistic industrial simulation and Advantech SCADA for advanced monitoring and visualization tasks.

With 43 complete sets being delivered, students will benefit from 1 to 1 practical exposure to these tools during their training.
Adding even more value, our program now includes a Competency Certification Program endorsed by Omron Certified Trainers, with certificates issued directly by Omron Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. boosting our students' credentials with recognized industry certification.
This is a huge step forward in our commitment to producing industry ready graduates equipped with IR 4.0 skills!

Program CEO@Faculty: Menyelami Sistem Tenaga Negara bersama TNB

Program CEO@Faculty FTKEE UMPSA membuka tirai dengan lawatan teknikal ke Stesen Janakuasa Tuanku Jaafar (SJTJ), Port Dickson dan National Load Dispatch Centre (NLDC) TNB, Kuala Lumpur. Seramai 38 peserta termasuk pensyarah dan pelajar dari Program Kejuruteraan dan Teknologi Kejuruteraan menyertai lawatan ini sebagai sebahagian daripada inisiatif mendekatkan dunia akademik dengan industri tenaga. Objektif utama lawatan ini adalah untuk memberi pendedahan secara langsung kepada sistem penjanaan, pengurusan dan pengagihan tenaga elektrik negara, sejajar dengan kandungan kursus seperti Power System Protection dan High Voltage Engineering.

Harapan kami agar lawatan ini bukan sahaja memperkayakan pengalaman pembelajaran pelajar, tetapi juga memupuk pemikiran strategik, kefahaman industri sebenar serta membina jaringan profesional yang bakal mencorak masa depan kejuruteraan tenaga di Malaysia.

Signal Processing Unleashed: The Heart of Electronic Communications

As part of the BEL3213 (Signals and Systems) course, a total of 13 students from Universiti Malaysia Pahang Al-Sultan Abdullah (UMPSA) carried out a SULAM program themed “Signal Processing Unleashed” with 106 Form Four students at Sekolah Sains Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah, Pekan.

The program was led by Ir. Ts. Dr. Norizam Bin Sulaiman, with strong support from four staff members — three academic staff from FTKEE and one Teaching Engineer from the TVET Centre. Among the key committee members who were the driving force behind the success of this program were:

  1. Associate Professor Ir. Ts. Dr. Fahmi bin Samsuri

  2. Ts. Dr. Mohd Shawal Bin Jadin

  3. Ts. Mohd Hisyam Bin Mohd Ariff

  4. Ir. Ts. Nik Mohd Zaitul Akmal Bin Mustapha

Through IoT demonstrations such as LED light control and ultrasonic sensors using smartphones, the school students were introduced to real-life applications of electronic communication systems — making science and technology more accessible, engaging, and enjoyable.

The program aimed to:

  • Enhance students' understanding of signal and system concepts,

  • Spark early interest in the field of electrical and electronic engineering,

  • Develop soft skills among university students through teaching, communication, and leadership.

It is hoped that educational collaborations like this will serve as a bridge between the university and the community, foster STEM interest among school students, and produce graduates who are not only knowledgeable but also socially conscious.

Sebagai persediaan menghadapi fasa akhir projek tahun akhir, para pelajar Senior Design Project II (SDP2) bagi Semester II Sesi 2024/2025 telah menyertai Siri Bengkel Penulisan Final Thesis dan Technical Paper yang dirangka khusus untuk meningkatkan mutu penulisan akademik dan teknikal mereka.

Siri ini merangkumi lima sesi penting meliputi aspek kandungan, struktur, dan pematuhan piawaian penulisan:

1️⃣ Final Thesis Chapter 1 and 2 Writing
2️⃣ Final Thesis Chapter 3, 4 and 5 Writing
3️⃣ Technical Paper Writing and Formatting
4️⃣ Final Thesis Formatting
5️⃣ Referencing: Mendeley and Turnitin

Melalui bengkel ini, pelajar didedahkan kepada teknik penulisan berkesan, penyusunan data kajian secara sistematik serta pematuhan etika penulisan ilmiah – termasuk penggunaan perisian rujukan dan semakan plagiarisme. Inisiatif ini bukan sahaja memantapkan kemahiran dokumentasi pelajar, malah mempersiapkan mereka untuk menghasilkan tesis dan kertas teknikal yang berkualiti tinggi dan berimpak.

Pembentangan & Demonstrasi SDP1 Dan PSM: Pentas Awal Inovasi Mahasiswa!

Sebagai sebahagian daripada penilaian Senior Design Project I (SDP1) bagi Semester II Sesi 2024/2025, para pelajar telah mengambil bahagian dalam Sesi Pembentangan dan Demonstrasi yang menjadi medan utama untuk mereka mempersembahkan hasil kemajuan projek tahun akhir masing-masing.

Sesi ini menyumbang sebanyak 40% markah dalam bentuk Progress Presentation and Demonstration, di mana setiap kumpulan membentangkan idea, penyelesaian kejuruteraan serta melakukan demonstrasi awal kepada panel penilai yang terdiri daripada pensyarah berpengalaman.

Melalui platform ini, pelajar bukan sahaja mengasah kemahiran komunikasi teknikal dan keyakinan diri, malah mendapat maklum balas yang membina dalam usaha memperkemas projek menjelang fasa akhir nanti. Langkah awal ini nampak kecil, tetapi impaknya amat besar untuk masa depan seorang jurutera!

Siri Bengkel Teknikal SDP1: Asah Kemahiran, Cipta Inovasi!

Sepanjang Semester II Sesi 2024/2025, para pelajar kursus Senior Design Project I (SDP1) telah menyertai Siri Bengkel Teknikal yang padat dan bermanfaat bagi memperkukuh asas kemahiran teknikal mereka.
Siri bengkel ini merangkumi 5 slot utama yang menyeluruh:

- Programming Using Arduino – Part 1
- Programming Using Arduino – Part 2
- Programming Using ESP32
- PCB Design and Fabrication
- Soldering Technique

Setiap slot dirangka khusus untuk memberi pendedahan hands-on dalam bidang elektronik dan sistem terbina, sekali gus menyediakan pelajar dengan pengetahuan praktikal yang amat diperlukan bagi merealisasikan projek reka bentuk akhir mereka.
Dengan bimbingan tenaga pengajar berpengalaman dan modul yang berstruktur, siri ini bukan sahaja memupuk kemahiran teknikal, malah menyemai semangat inovatif dalam kalangan pelajar kejuruteraan.

Industry Talk With Dialog Upstream: Unveiling the Real Challenges of Energy Engineers!

An Industry Talk session was successfully held on 23 May 2025 at the Faculty of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology (FTKEE), UMPSA Pekan. The session was conducted online and delivered by Ir. Ts. Zarina Johan, a Senior Engineer from Dialog Upstream. The program involved students from the Electrical Power System, Renewable Energy & Technology, and System Installation and Maintenance courses, coordinated by Ts. Dr. Norhafidzah Mohd Saad and Ts. Dr. Mohd Shawal Jadin.

The talk, titled “Navigating Electrical Engineering Challenges in the Energy Sector,” provided students with valuable insights into the diverse challenges within the field of electrical engineering, particularly in the energy sector. Ir. Ts. Zarina shared her experience in managing large-scale energy projects such as solar system installations, including the complexities of offshore solar installations for the oil and gas (O&G) industry.

Key topics highlighted during the session included safety, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with industry standards. She also discussed the critical role of engineers in decision-making, risk management, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. Furthermore, the speaker emphasized the importance for today’s engineers to master both technical skills and soft skills, especially in this era of energy transition toward renewable sources.

Overall, the session was highly beneficial in raising student awareness about the realities of an engineering career while inspiring and boosting their confidence to step into the industry. The faculty extends its heartfelt appreciation to Ir. Ts. Zarina for her meaningful and impactful sharing.
