Application for research based degree is open throughout the year. These degrees require you to complete an individual research project and submit a dissertation. Interested applicant should first visit the website of the respective research groups to identify the potential supervisor. We encourage the applicants to communicate with the potential supervisor in the process of preparing the research proposal which is compulsory for the admission application.
Application shall be processed so that successful applicants can start their candidature in current academic semester. Applicants are encouraged to follow-up with the Institute of Postgraduate Study on the status of their application one month after submitting the application.
International students should have a good command of English equivalent to IELTS (Academic) Band 5.0, TOEFL* paper based 500 points. Meanwhile, local students do not need to provide proof of any examinations, i.e. MUET, IELTS, TOEFL.
Candidates may choose to enrol as a full time or part time student subject to the study programme offered by the faculty. However, international candidates may only register as full time students.

The estimated total cost of studying in UMP (inclusive of tuition and living expenditure) for an 18 months Master degree candidature is MYR 35,000. The estimated total costs for 36 months doctoral candidature is about MYR 70,000. The bulk of this cost is living cost since the tuition fees charged for both Malaysian and International students are low. As such the actual total cost depends on candidates’ living styles and preferences. The details of the fees are shown in the following tables:

Applicants may apply through UMP postgraduate website http://ips.umpsa.edu.my/, using the online application form available on the website. Upon filling-up the application form, applicants must forward copies of the relevant documents e.g., academic records, transcripts, research proposal through electronically. All applicants should be accompanied with the processing fees of MYR 50 for Malaysian OR USD 30 for international applicants. The relevant documents and processing fees are compulsory for the administration process.
