A series of technical visits to 30MW Large-Scale Solar PV (LSS) Power Plants owned by reNIKOLA Holdings Sdn. Bhd. provided invaluable insights for FTKEE students. The visits to LSS Gebeng (November 4, 2024) and LSS Pekan (November 12, 2024) aimed to expose students to the intricacies of solar power generation and grid integration. The first visit involved 44 undergraduate and master's students, while the second visit hosted 50 diploma students.
The main objective was to deepen students' understanding of solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation, grid-connected system quality, and the maintenance, safety, and management of solar power plants. The visits were particularly beneficial for students enrolled in courses such as Power Quality Grid Integration (MEE3343), Electrical Power System & Analysis (BHE2112), Renewable Energy and Maintenance (BVE2325), and Electrical Power Systems (DRE2113).
Ir. Rubakanthan Saravannan, a 132kV Competent Electrical Engineer and O&M Manager for the East Region, provided a comprehensive briefing during the visits. As an alumnus of UMPSA’s master's program, his practical insights inspired attendees. Accompanying him were Nurul Farhana Binti Azis, an Electrical Engineer, and Hadiputera Bin Massor, the Plant Manager.
FTKEE senior lecturers, including Ts. Dr. Norhafidzah Binti Mohd Saad, Ts. Dr. Mohd Shawal Bin Jadin, and Ir. Dr. Noor Zaihah Binti Jamal, accompanied the students, making the event both educational and memorable.
These technical visits showcased the significance of renewable energy systems and their pivotal role in Malaysia's transition to sustainable power, inspiring the next generation of engineers to embrace innovation in the field.
