UMPSA TECH Team Secures 13th Place in Asia at Shell Eco Marathon 2024

Indonesia - The UMPSA Tech team secured 13th place in Asia and 2nd best team in Malaysia in the battery prototype category at the Shell Eco Marathon 2024, held at the Pertamina Mandalika Circuit, Lombok, Indonesia.

The championship, which took place from July 1 to July 7, was participated in by dozens of teams from all over Asia, including countries like Indonesia, China, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Qatar, and India. This competition features an energy efficiency-based format, where teams are tasked to attempt the best energy efficiency record for a race track distance of 25 kilometres, which must be completed in under 30 minutes. Three categories were contested: internal combustion engine (ICE), battery electric (BE), and hydrogen (H2).

This edition saw numerous teams being eliminated early during the technical inspection stage due to strict regulations before being allowed to attempt the circuit. Additionally, with the extreme weather conditions on the race track causing several vehicles to be unable to complete their attempts, the UMPSA Tech team successfully made 6 attempts, recording an energy efficiency of 196 km/kWh, surpassing the record set in the 2023 edition.

Such championships are expected to form a solid foundation for building and testing students' knowledge and skills across various technological and engineering disciplines, thus fostering a competitive generation aligned with the nation's TVET aspirations.
