Launch of Malaysia Artificial Intelligence Nexus 2024

Prime Minister, YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched the Malaysia Artificial Intelligence Nexus 2024 (MY AI NEXUS) at Dewan Merdeka, World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur. The event, organized by the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) in collaboration with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), is a special program aimed at bringing together renowned AI experts, universities, industries, agencies, and relevant stakeholders to drive AI readiness in Malaysia.

Present at the ceremony was the Minister of Higher Education, YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir. Strengthening the research and innovation ecosystem, as well as enhancing the enabling environment for higher education in AI implementation, is furthered through the establishment of the Malaysia Artificial Intelligence Consortium (MAI Consortium).

This consortium is a collaborative initiative among academic institutions, government agencies, and industries in Malaysia, to advance AI excellence, knowledge exchange and collaboration, and drive innovation and impact. The importance of the MAI Consortium is measured in terms of Accelerating Progress, Cross-Pollination of Ideas, Industry Adoption, and Education and Capacity Building.

This initiative aligns with the Malaysia AI Roadmap 2021–2025 under the AI Talent Strategic Initiative, which aims to offer comprehensive and inclusive AI education to meet the demand for 200,000 AI talents in the country.

UMPSA Vice Chancellor, Prof Dato Ts Dr Yuserrie Zainuddin, also attended the event and witnessed the exhibition of UMPSA's research products in conjunction with the Malaysia Artificial Intelligence Nexus 2024 (MY AI NEXUS). Among the showcased research were Associate Professor Dr. Muhammad Sharfi bin Najib’s “Intelligent Odor Profile Detection System (E-NOSE)”  which garnered significant attention from visitors.
